Arriving at the CC near 11.15 pm, the place was packed and I immediately spotted the
owner blending right in with the decor. I stepped 10 feet inside and ordered my Lonestar. Determined not to let the strep throat I caught the day before ruin the festivities, I settled in the back with a friend anxiously awaiting Dale to take the stage. Our friendly conversation took a backburner when a young girl trounced her date on the pool table. Amidst our conversing, I heard her mention to her friends that she had recently won a pool tourney.
Dale Watson and his band took the stage close to 11.30 pm. My friend
and I posted up just on the edge of the jubilant crowd, stage right. Feeling very faint and feverish, I cannot remember what songs the band played. I do, however, remember Dale's off-kilter style. His dyed jet black hair is a stark contrast from his natural gray. And his black three quarter length suit jacket probably wasn't the best pick for his stature, albeit dressy. The patent shoes would've taken props if they had not have accentuated the navy slacks. Who's suppose to notice they're not black in the dark anyway?
My symptoms were obviously apparent because my date for the evening asked if I was feeling OK just after the countdown to the new year. Considering yacking on his shoes or fainting, we escaped the clamor and body heat through the back door for all the cool winter air Texas can muster. A few minutes later, we gave it another go only to finally leave around 12.15.
It's always a pleasure to see Dale Watson as it's a destined good ol' country time. I first caught him in 2002 in Austin and have been hooked ever since, seeing him perform in Austin, Dallas, and Houston so far. Nevertheless, I do miss his honky-tonk shirts with ripped off sleeves and dirty jeans. At least his perpetual raw country sound and embellished guitar strap are nice familiarities. He tours extensively in TX and Europe so if you have the chance, I suggest you go do some two-steppin'.

Sidenote: Rumor has it that he got married in 2007...and that he's still a hound.

Another view.
Yep, Rebekah seemed to be in a rather dizzy spell as we stood there watching Dale Watson strum. I must say she's quite the trooper and thanks to a quick fix of over-the-counter cold meds she seemed ready and eager to blow out the new year.
Then I noticed her swaying and staring at my boots. She'd only had maybe a 1/2 of a Lone Star and I knew it wasn't drunkenness via the beer the had her head spinning.
"Wanna go outside for minute?" I asked, a short nod confirmed she was ready to get the hell out of there. So we stood outside for a brief time and she seemed to look a little more pink vs. the pale feverish Rebekah I'd just seen.
Back inside we took our place just beside the stage, it wasn't long before she rounded the corner and disappeared into the ladies room. At this point I knew we were headed back home.
We slipped out the side door and got into her car, headed back to the house and called it a night.
Sickness and all we had a great couple of days, thanks for pushing onward ... until the next adventure take care my dear friend.
